Paid Membership
Launch your own membership program — customers pay a recurring fee to join, earn points on every order, and redeem those points for discounts. It’s a new recurring revenue line, native to Boost, and it’s built to turn members into subscribers. What it is
Paid Membership lets you run a membership program from Boost. Your customers pay a recurring fee — monthly or annual — to become members. Members earn points on everything they buy and redeem those points for discounts on future orders. You earn the membership fee the day someone joins, before they buy a single product. And the points engine has a twist that makes it more than a loyalty program: members earn points faster on subscription orders than on one-time orders — so the membership actively rewards your customers for subscribing. Paid Membership is a Boost add-on. See Boost Plans for pricing. The problem it solves
A points and loyalty program is something most brands want — but the usual way to get one works against you:- It’s a separate app, bolted onto your store. Generic, off-brand, disconnected from your cart and your subscriptions — one more tool to install, wire up, and keep in sync.
- It’s a cost center, not a revenue line. A standard loyalty program costs you money in discounts and gives you nothing back up front. A paid membership flips that — the membership fee is revenue from day one.
- It rewards every purchase the same. Most loyalty programs treat a one-time order and a subscription order identically, so they never push the behavior that actually drives lifetime value: subscribing.
How it works
1. Set up your membership. Name it, set the price, and choose the renewal interval — monthly or annual. Boost creates it as a real product billed through Shopify’s recurring billing. 2. Set your points rates. Decide how many points members earn per dollar — and set a higher rate for subscription orders than one-time orders, so members are rewarded for subscribing. 3. Members join and earn. A customer joins, pays the recurring fee, and starts earning points on every order automatically. 4. They redeem for discounts. Points convert into a discount code at the value you set, once they pass the minimum you set, applied to their next order. Members, points balances, and renewals are all tracked for you — no spreadsheets, no manual work. What you get
- New recurring revenue from day one. The membership fee is near-pure margin, earned the moment a customer joins — before they buy a thing.
- More subscribers. Boosting points on subscription orders turns your loyalty program into a subscription engine — it pays customers to subscribe.
- Higher lifetime value, lower churn. Members buy more often to earn and redeem, and a customer who’s earning toward a reward has a reason to stay.
- Proof on the Moneyboard. Membership revenue and member behavior show up as their own stream — new members, recurring membership revenue, and how much more often members order than everyone else.
Works with your stack
- Is this another app and another bill? No. Paid Membership is a Boost add-on — built into the platform, not a separate loyalty app to install, wire up, and reconcile. One platform, one bill.
- How are members billed? Through Shopify’s native recurring billing, so renewals are handled for you.
- Does it work with my subscriptions? Yes — and it makes them stronger. The points engine rewards subscription orders at a higher rate, so it actively grows your subscriber base. It runs alongside the subscription provider you already use.
- What do members earn and redeem? Points on their purchases, redeemed for discount codes. You control the earn rates, the redemption value, and the minimum needed to redeem.
